The building of the studio
The process of building started 2 years before we broke ground. Because the studio was less than 100 feet from the high water mark on Bolivar Pond we had to go through conservation. We had to draw up and submit detailed plans to the conservation department. We were told at the hearing that we were one of the only home owners to go through this process, normally it’s done by a construction firm. We were the general contractors on this project so it was on us!
We started breaking ground in the early spring of 2003. It was just a few months before the birth of our first child. In July a week before her due date Chris took off what would be a 3-week paternity leave and started working on the studio. You’ll see a very pregnant Carrie a perfect 16” on center during the framing.
The two floor structure features a half gambrel roofline and the entire front has windows to overlook the pond.
The interior has custom shiplap ceilings and wood details as well as plywood walls painted white and a floating hardwood floor. In addition to custom movable tables there is a beautiful pocket door that features Chris’s signature tree design.
